Containers (8)

Questions about terminology and other technical aspects related to shipping containers.

All steamship line decals and markings must be removed from the box by the buyer. This is typically referred to as neutralization.

As part of our terms and conditions, sellers may require the neutralization of their containers.

If neutralization is required it is a legal require with the sale as that container is no longer part of the shipping line/leasing company fleet. Neutralization ensures that there can be no confusion about who owns this box.

Unlike vehicles and chassis where ownership is identified by titles and registration, containers have prefixes and numbers along with logos. Units that are not neutralized can be viewed as breach of contract and repossessed.

A SCAC code or Standard Carrier Alpha Code is a unique two to four letter code used to identify transportation companies and was created to facilitate the computerization of the transportation industry.

It is also used to verify that trucking companies have the proper insurance to enter the terminal. Once a company is set up in the terminal system with the appropriate SCAC code, the trucking company is registered.

Using this code will reduce waiting time if a transportation company does not have the proper identification set up prior to entry at the terminal when coming to pick up your containers for delivery.

Any container can be a ground storage container. Containers used for shipping have special identifical and tracking codes and are not allowed to be removed from shipping container vessels or depots.

ContainerBid specializes in the sale of shipping containers which are no longer in use by container shipping and leasing companies.

When you purchase containers from ContainerBid we provide release code information which will allow you to receive delivery of the shipping containers from the depots.

Any type of off-lease shipping container may be found on ContainerBid.

ContainerBid offers off-lease container listings from global shipping and leasing companies as well as depots and brokers and dealers.

Our inventory may include at any time a mix of 20' and 40' standard units, Hi-Cube, Both aluminum and steel units, Speciality equipment such as Open Tops, Flat racks, Platforms, refrigerated containers, tank containers or even scrap container.

As-is condition refers to units that have not been specifically inspected before sale. As units are put up for sale, all major damage or Scrap units are weeded out of the flow and the rest of the units are listed in AS-IS condition. Most of the units are wind and water tight but some of the units can have light damages. They are all sold first out of stack.

As a container buyer you may be responsible for the neutralization of the container, this will be identified in the description and terms of the auction.

Neutralization is specifically the removing of all steamship line decals and markings from the containers. This can be as simple as painting over all identification marking and it legally required in the purchase documents.

You may email us at manager@containerbid.com if you have any questions.

A Letter of Assignment or LOA is received after an order is completed.

The LOA is used when units are sold first out of the stack. For example, if you place an order for 20 x 40' units off the top of the stack, the unit numbers will not be known at the time of the order. Instead, you will have a "blanket" Release Reference. Upon receipt of all 20 units, the seller will confirm with the depot terminal or yard which unit numbers were received and apply the specific unit numbers to your release. You will then receive a Letter of Assignment indicating the units received. This is for your records.

Containerbid is a venue through which various shipping and leasing companies, traders and agents conduct business. All containers listed on the site unless otherwise stipulated, are new or used ISO shipping containers originally designed and manufactured to specific international ISO standards.

These design and manufacturing standards ensure the containers can safely withstand the rigours of international trade for many years whilst keeping their contents safe, dry and secure on land, sea, truck and train.

Containerbid uses industry standard prefixes to define the containers.

We encourage you to contact the seller relating to any specific questions you may have concerning the containers offered for sale on Containerbid.
